Mountain High Adventure Camp 2017 - Week 4 Photo Page

On Monday this week we went to Braddock Bay to do some canoeing and Kayaking. The water was so high that much of the grass area was a swamp. We pushed the boats out into the open water and paddled up the east arm of the bay into Buttonwood creek. We fit under the bridge over the Parkway but couldn't fit under the bridge further in so we returned to the boat launch for a picnic lunch. We had to stand in a puddle to cook the burgers on the grill but the food was good and we had fun. Later, we went to the beach and played and did a little treasure hunting with the metal detector. Unfortunately, we did not strike it rich.

On Tuesday, we went on our long bike ride to search for hidden treasure. We rode across the O'Rorke Bridge into Irondequoit, stopping at many locations to find additional clues. We stopped in Summerville to check out the view of the Genesee River and there were a lot of geese who wanted to share our snack. Later we continued back into the Charlotte area, stopping at the lighthouse before reaching the beach. We rode our bikes out to the end of the pier and then figured out the clues and went to Abbotts for ice cream sundaes. After lunch we went to the park and played some disc golf until we discovered a creek running along the back 9 holes and had to stop to play in the creek.

On Wednesday, we started by climbing on the rope bridge before going to Ellison Park to explore along the creek there and climbing the hills with the GPS to find some hidden treasure. We played a few holes of disc golf and by then we were hot and sweaty so we went to the beach to cool down and have lunch.

On Thursday, we packed up and headed for Dansville to camp at Sugar Creek Glen for our overnight. We had to drive across Sugar Creek to get to the campsite. We started setting up camp in a spot where 2 creeks came together and it started raining "really hard" so we huddled under umbrellas and tarps until it stopped raining. There was a small "creek" running down through the campsite directly under our tent before going into the real creek. Fortunately, the inside of the tent stayed dry. That afternoon, we hiked up the glen along the creek to see the many cascades and waterfalls. It turned out to be a nice day and we explored way up the creek before coming back down for dinner. The kids played in the creek while the adults set up for dinner. We made a campfire in the evening and relaxed before bed. Friday morning we took our time packing up and eventually returned home.
