On Monday we took the canoes and kayaks to Irondequoit Bay so we could go exploring up into the wetlands towards Ellison Park. After a half -day of paddling, we drove to Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte for a picnic lunch, some swimming at the beach and some creative castle building.
On Tuesday we set out out on our bicycles for the 12 mile treasure hunt. We rode from Britton Road over the O'Rorke bridge into Irondequoit, making stops at Colebrook School to play on the playground, Camp Eastman to play on the toys and Summerville to check out the Genesee River (and the big ship) before returning to the west side. Once back across the river, we found the Charlotte Lighthouse and then rode the bike path along the river to Turning Point before heading home. We figured out the clues, got our treasure and set up the slip-n-slide for some water fun during the afternoon.
On Wednesday we went fishing at Webster Pier for a while and then went off into the woods for some geocaching. Some of the caches were easy to find while others were much harder.
Thursday arrived and we packed all our camping gear into the trailer and drove to Allegany State Park. After setting up camp, the creek that ran behind the campsite proved to be a very popular play location. The kids cooked up a delicious pasta dinner and later that evening we built a nice campfire and toasted marshmallows for smores.
A bunch of the boys were up early Friday morning and making a bit of noise so I took them down the road to the new playground that wasn't near any campsites to let off some of their energy. We returned to camp to cook a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs, homefries and sausages. then we packed up camp and drove north to Little Rock City which sits high on a hill north of Salamanca. While there, we explored all along the hillside, climbing, crawling and squeezing through the many passages through the rocks along the top of the sometimes very muddy hill. After a couple hours of exploring and lunch, we drove home.
