On Sunday we planned our menu for the first half of the week, went shoppng, loaded the trailer and took off for the Adirondack mountains. We made camp, cooked dinner and had a campfire before bed. The next morning was overcast with a good chance for rain so we decided to hike the mountains instead of rock climbing. After a good breakfast, we drove to the trailhead and started up Big Crow mountain. The weather held for the hike but began to rain as we got back to the van so we decided to go swimming and fishing (in the rain) in the Ausable River in Wilmington.
The next day was sunny so we made a great breakfast and drove to Pitchoff Mountain to do some climbing. All the kids did great including some that made it up the more difficult climbs. A couple of the kids even made it look easy. Later in the day, we returneed to camp, checked out the big waterfall behind the campground, took showers and went into Saranac Lake for dinner at the chinese buffet.
On Wednesday we packed up for our canoe trip, went shopping to get what we needed to finish the week and headed towards Follensby Clear Pond near Upper Saranac Lake for our canoe trip. After checking the weather forcast, we learned that "severe thunderstorms" were predicted for the next two days so we rented a site at Fish Creek Campground so we wouldn't get stuck on an island when it came time to come home. It turned out be a beautiful 2 days and we still got in a lot of paddling and even swamped the canoes for fun. The last night, we even got a little more fishing done.
